SAISD Congratulates Howard College on New “Builders of San Angelo Workshop” Building

San Angelo ISD congratulates our partner in growing hopes and dreams, Howard College, on their recent dedication of the new “Builders of San Angelo Workshop” building and tool center at the West Texas Training Center (WTTC) campus in San Angelo.  We look forward to SAISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) students focused on Construction programs of study enjoying and utilizing the space to create projects, works of craftsmanship and innovation for years to come.

“The ‘Builders of San Angelo Workshop’ offers our CTE students access to real-world experiences and opportunities to refine their skills learned through the Construction Management and Inspection courses. We value being able to utilize this space, and the partnership with Howard College,” said SAISD Director of Career and Technical Education Roxanne Fentress.

SAISD CTE programs support student future-readiness with courses providing clear direction to pursue post-secondary opportunities - whether that be a college education or entering the workforce. Programs offer a sequence of courses with coherent and rigorous content that is aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills. Through approved programs of study students are provided opportunities for industry based certifications, technical dual credit, work-based learning, and participation in student leadership organizations. Upon completion of a sequence of certain courses in Construction Management and Inspection, CTE students have the opportunity to obtain their Level 1 Building Construction and Maintenance Technology Certificate through Howard College enabling them to begin working. This is just one way our SAISD CTE programs prepare students for further education and in-demand, high-skill, and high-wage careers in Texas.

Since 2001, SAISD and Howard College have partnered to support eight of the SAISD CTE programs of study at the West Texas Training Center (WTTC) at the Howard College San Angelo campus. The facility serves the workforce training needs of the Concho Valley and West Texas. The eight programs of study include  Construction, Design & Multimedia Arts, Health Science, Cosmetology, Information Technology, Law Enforcement, Welding, Robotics, Automotive Technology, and Collision Repair. On September 30, 2021, Howard College celebrated the 75th anniversary of the first day of classes held at Howard College with celebrations at all four Howard College campuses (Big Spring, Lamesa, San Angelo and Southwest College for the Deaf (SWCD)), throughout the day in honor of the historic occasion including the building dedication of the “Builders of San Angelo Workshop” and recognition of the Nelson Davis “Building Futures” Scholarship at the San Angelo campus. SAISD appreciates the partnership between the Howard College WTTC and the District which allows students from both Central High School and Lake View High School to access these advanced CTE Programs which otherwise may not be available.
